About

Dr Janine Potgieter

MBChB (Pret); Dip (Obs); FCOG (SA); Mmed (OetG)(Pret)
Practice Number: 0501662; HPCSA: MP0638315; SASOG Member
Janine describes herself as feminine, loyal, creative, outspoken, honest and a little feisty! However, the tough cookie exterior hides a sincere nature and a sensitive soul. She loves being a wife and mother but feels incomplete without her daily dose of being a career woman! Her life motto is to do justly, to love mercy and walk humbly (Micah 6: 8).

As a doctor she strives to be meticulous, hardworking, dedicated, skilful and knowledgeable. Her profession is her calling and she wants to render her patients with compassionate, gentle and individualised care. She loves to share her knowledge by taking time to explain matters and strongly dislikes a paternalistic approach to decision making. She sincerely aims to make everyone feel welcome and to never leave feeling that they are “just a number”.

The Practice

The practice is affectionately known as The Pink Palace, (for obvious reasons!), and is lovingly filled with all the small things that make Janine's heart happy! She is quite sentimental and treasures things that tell a story. The atmosphere is cheerful and created to make every one feel welcome and cared for. Dr. Janine Potgieter admits, operates and delivers exclusively at Life Wilgers Hospital in Pretoria. The maternity unit has recently been refurbished and boasts gorgeous suites which also accommodates new dads.
The neonatal ICU is a state of the art facility.

Philosophy

Janine chose to specialise in Obstetrics and Gynaecology as she is passionate about womanhood and all its unique seasons. She adores forming long-term relationships with patients and their families. She believes women should only be loved and not understood!

Spring

“One is not born a woman, but blossoms into womanhood”

Spring women are adolescents or young women and brides who are still forming lasting relationships, completing their education or starting out careers.

They require contraceptives that suit their lifestyles and regular screening for common gynaecological conditions.

Summer

“The moment a child is born, a mother is born too. She has never existed before”

Summer women bear the ultimate fruit of womanhood – motherhood! From the gentle flutter of tiny feet, the beautiful growing baby bump, right up to delivery and the miraculous moment of holding her baby for the first time - pregnancy is truly a rite of passage.

They deserve dedicated, tender pregnancy care and safe deliveries as healthy mothers and babies are the ultimate reward.

Autumn

“Through the years she has learnt that there is no way to be a perfect mother, but a million ways to be a good one”

Autumn women are the glue that keeps their families together, they take care of aging parents and growing children all while fulfilling the demands of their own careers. They selflessly shed leaves of love that can leave their own branches bare.

They need a lot of compassion, safe and reliable contraception and individualised care of the menopause.

Winter

“Growing old is an attitude”

Winter women are the ladies with silver in their hair and wisdom in their hearts. They may finally be able to tick off a few bucket list items, being retired with all their chicks out of the nest. They are usually doting grandmothers who occasionally still paint their toenails blue! Their bare branches are like open arms for those in need of comfort, wisdom and peace.

They require care that is tailored to other medical conditions and screening for gynaecological malignancies.

"Dr. Janine is a fantastic gynaecologist! She helped me deliver my firstborn - I always felt well informed and calm that me, as well as my unborn baby, were in good hands, due to her being honest and transparent at all times. She gave room to make own decisions, but also took control of a situation if necessary.

She has an absolute wonderful sense of humour, however remains professional at all times. I always felt comfortable when going for a check-up.

I have recommended Dr. Janine to many, and will continue to do so. She is extremely knowledgeable in her field and a lovely, energetic and passionate woman!"

"Dr Janine Potgieter is the best! She is friendly and has a great sense of humour.

My hubby and I appreciated her honesty and transparency throughout our pregnancy journey. She made us feel comfortable and always put our minds at ease when there were doubts. Other doctors had conducted tests that weren't necessary and billed us for many follow up's. This was not the case with Janine.

Her receptionist Louise is so pleasant and helpful,we were always given such a warm welcome at every appointment which made the experience wonderful.

I highly recommend Dr. Potgieter and will definitely be going back!"

"Dr. Janine is an excellent Gynaecologist - she helped us from preconception to the delivery of our first born. I am a very calm first time mommy because of the help of Dr. Janine. A question that felt like a silly one for me was never a silly question to answer. She had so much patience with me as I always had a load of questions and sometimes uncertainty, but Dr. Janine always made me feel at ease at the end of our appointments.

Dr. Janine will definitely deliver our future babies!

Her receptionist, Louise is also a lovely lady. She is always so friendly and the extra admin was never an issue for her."

"Dr Janine is the absolute best there is. She helped me deliver both my children and did not once pressure me into anything I did not want. From our first meeting in 2019, she made me feel welcome and at ease, like I was visiting an old friend. Hearing awkward and uncomfortable stories about gynaecologists, I never expected to enjoy our visits. And boy, I couldn't wait for the next one. Dr Janine is kind hearted, straight forward and extremely professional. She always handled every situation we where in with utmost professionalism and care. I am forever grateful for her support and guidance during my deliveries and the great care she took of me after each one. I can highly recommend Dr Janine."

"Janine Potgieter is amazing. I’ve been with her for 5 years. She delivered my daughter 4 years ago and if it wasn’t for her my daughter would not have survived. She’s caring and compassionate and always makes me feel at ease."

"Since I was not happy with the Gynae who assisted me with my now 8 year old daughter and I didn’t want to return, I struggled to find a new Gynae after such a long time. I eventually found Janine on Google and after having spoken to the friendliest receptionist, Louise, I was happy to know they would assist me. Janine knows how to make her patients feel at ease, explains everything in detail, and it was always a pleasure going to visits. She took great care of me while I had pregnancy diabetes and safely delivered my now 8month old boy. Thank you to you and Louise for your professionalism, kindness, friendly faces and always listening ear! We will be visiting soon again!"

"A review from the husband: My wife and I had been trying for two years to become pregnant and at the end of last year, we got the good news. Looking for a Gynaecologist in Pretoria east we found Dr Janine Potgieter on Google and as always we wanted to make sure she was a good doctor. We read the reviews and tried to ascertain as much info as no one referred us and we didn’t know anyone personally who could give us the nod of approval. That said we are super happy we found Dr Janine. She is a considerate and passionate medical professional and she knows what she is talking about, a VERY good Gynaecologist. We enjoy her candidness and value her humility but most of all her honestly. She is very professional and makes things clear and understandable. We had early pregnancy complications but Dr Janine helped us through it with the utmost care and compassion, it was truly a difficult experience and she did make the process better and bearable. Now almost a whole 5 months later we are back and happy to have her as our Gynaecologist. We would highly recommend her. I can honestly say that even though our first pregnancy was short-lived and the process seems so daunting now, she took it upon herself to give us peace of mind and ease our fears. We look forward to seeing her and going through this process again."
